‘Keep your ears pricked’ is a line I will not easily forget. This was preached to me by none other than Mr Tye himself at the beginning of my year 12 English Language studies in 2014. Much to my delight, I received a 49 for my English Language which contributed significantly to my overall ATAR of 99.7. I have attended Tye & English since Year 9 and can wholeheartedly say that it has made all the difference to my academic performance throughout my last few years of high school. read more…

I would like to give my thanks to Mr Tye and all the teachers for not only providing the fundamentals and motivation to achieve an outstanding ATAR (99.60 with a 47 in English), but helping me to see beyond the notion of academia. I, like many students, used to be extremely fearful of English. Personally, I found it the most difficult subject and just to make things a little (a lot) harder, it was compulsory. Moreover, I still remember the daunting, red-inked essay that Mr Tye had returned me, chock-full of much needed improvements. But rather than being dismayed and discouraged, it provided the harsh reality of my situation; an urgent signal for change. And this is where my journey at Tye and English began. read more…

Thank you so much for all your help in English Language during my Year 12 in 2013. Attending weekly classes from February to September 2013, my writing and analytical skills gradually improved with my marks going from C’s to A’s. The extra material and tasks significantly contributed to my VCE study score of 41 (raw). Mr Tye’s endless feedback allowed me to achieve this score and give me the confidence to face the final exam. read more..

I thank you, as a former student, who has learnt so much about the linguistics of English under your tutelage. The epiphany of how indispensable a person’s quality and grasp of English only came to light during my summer in Hong Kong when I was accepted for an internship with Morgan Stanley – a leading multinational financial services corporation. read more..

Since 2003, I have been a student at Tye and English whilst also attending Jells Park Primary School and Caufield Grammar School.

The great improvement that I was able to experience was greatly assisted by the number of friendly and approachable teachers that I became familiar with over the years. All of whom, including yourself, were always willing to go the extra mile and help me beyond class hours. read more..

On the 14th November 2011, a day after a shocking performance on my chemistry exam, and a less than satisfying performance in physics, I said to my father, “I never thought I’d ever say this – but English Language will be my saving grace.”

I went to Tye & English in Year 9, having long identified English as my weakest subject. It was in an academic sense, my Achilles heel, given my strengths in all other subjects.

Today, essay writing is by far my strongest English skill. Having achieved a raw score of 45 in a subject I used to abhor as a prerequisite for VCE, I am enormously grateful towards Mr Tye for his hard work, faith in me as a student, guidance and encouragement. My ultimate ATAR – 99.6, is a phenomenal score which would not have been achieved were it not for English Language. read more…

When I chose to undertake English Language in Year 11, I immediately enrolled for English Language classes and was pleased to find out Mr Tye himself would be taking the class. Others before me who had attended Tye & English assured me that the resources provided were the best part of class. I found that to be extremely true. Every week Mr Tye would hand out text after text, article after article and essay after essay, all as references for us to use. This was perhaps the most advantageous and useful. read more…

As ink flows freely across the page, I hark back to my first essay in Year 7. It was illegible and incoherent, marred by poor sentence construction. Six years later, I find myself astonished at the progress I have made. Without your assistance, a 45 in English and a near perfect score on the end of year written exam would have been a pipe dream. read more…

My name is Lynton Brooks and I completed my VCE in 2009 utilising the help and resources provided in Mr Tye’s class to attain a raw score of 43 in English Language. Unlike a lot of students in my class, I had not studied units 1 and 2 of English Language prior to studying the subject at Year 12 level. I joined Mr Tye’s classes approximately half way through the school year and was immediately impressed. By the end of the year, my SAC results were able to rival or even surpass those of the ‘top’ students in my class. With the continual help of Mr Tye’s tuition and resources, I was able to attain the highest study score for English Language in my school. read more…

I am very satisfied with my score of 46 for English and in awe of my 99.85 ENTER.

However, these numbers not only reflect hard work on my behalf, but the help of those who have always been there to support me unfalteringly. Therefore, I would like express my most sincere gratitude to you, Mr Tye. I first came to Tye & English as a year 8 student whose English was mediocre at best. I’m Laura, one of your former students, The other day I came by to thank you for the wonderful work you do tutoring English, and for the contribution of knowledge you have made to my life. Thank you for all the effort you have put into me last year. I am delighted with the A+      I received in my English Exam. This cumulated to a study score of 38 for English. Considering that I used to average only a B in Year 11 this has been a vast improvement. The Analytical and P.O.V writing classes helped a great deal. Most importantly, the feedback on my work and various example essays you gave us were a great guide and from these I was able to improve my essays. read more…

I would like to thank Tye & English for the six years of excellent education that I have thoroughly enjoyed. Before attending Tye & English, I was at a loss on how to write properly. Not only did I lack ideas, but I also lacked the vocabulary and the structure to create a strong essay. Yet through perseverance, hard work and the dedication of the teachers I was able to improve in all areas. The high calibre of the teachers meant that I had valuable insight to what assessors were looking for. If I hadn’t made the choice to take up tuition here then I definitely would not have got as far as I have today. Even just a few years at Tye & English helped me improve by leaps and bounds. read more…
